The Star Fox Crew ready for action!

Arrooo The Rumors Were True!

At 5PM CT time Nintendo released a brand new Direct Video on YouTube. After a brief mention and snippet of Fox McCloud's involvement in the recent Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026), original StarFox creator and designer Shigeru Miyamoto announces that the next Star Fox game will be titled...Star Fox (2026)! Nintendo's Executive Officer Yoshiaki Koizumi takes over the Direct and explains that this is a remake of the beloved Star Fox 64 (1997) which was also a remake of Star Fox (1993) on SNES.

The Switch 2 exclusive will retain the original games' storyline, level designs, and gameplay, updating the games graphics, frame rate, sound and music. Pre-Mission Briefings will now be rendered as fully animated cutscenes, this is the highest fidelity the Star Fox crew has ever looked in a game (to the dismay of some fans). The remake will also include difficulty options, new challenge modes, and new multiplayer modes.

While I did have a moment of cognitive dissonance hearing Fox's young voice with his older chunkier (or fluffier) look, I feel that this new Switch 2 game will be as endlessly re-playable as the original N64 game. A Day One purchase for me!

Star Fox (2026) is set to release next month on 25th June 2026 at $49.99 / £41.99 via the Nintendo eShop where it is already available to pre-order and pre-load.

Will you be playing this Day One?
